Halloween Costume Party Ideas: Halloween Party Games

Trivia games are fun for everyone, especially if they are tied to the theme of your party.  If you are having a sit down dinner, roll up various trivia quizzes, and tie with ribbon to match your theme colors. Set the little bundles at each place setting. If you are serving food buffet style, put them in a decorative basket. We have provided a few ideas to build a trivia quiz around, or you can come up with other creative ideas. Think of the theme of the party  crowd before choosing a topic. Try to include trivia related to the topic for a wide range of knowledge levels, so no one will feel left out. Let guests know when the answers will be read. Make the trivia quiz challenging, and your guests will leave the party a little wiser than they were when they arrived:

  • Sports – who holds what record in what sport, or match famous
  • Sports figures with the correct sport. Ask a sports fanatic to help you pull this together!
  • Inventors and Explorers – Provide a list, and have guests try to match inventors and explorers with their invention or discovery. Much more difficult than you might think!
  • Music – Either have guests try to match Artists with Song Titles, match Song Titles with the year the song was a hit, or match Songs with the decade they were from. Spend 45 minutes at a music store with a pad of paper, looking at the backs of compilation and "best of" CD's, and you'll have enough music trivia to fill the year 2000!
  • Movie stars/Movies – Provide a list, and have guests match as many actors/actresses with the films they starred in, or have them try to match movie titles with the year the movie was released. Another fun "Hollywood" trivia game is to see who can name the most films that have won an Academy Award for "Best Picture".

Make a list of the 100 most influential/important people of the 20th century. Ask guests to decide what significant contribution each made in order to make the list. The prize goes to the person who has all 100 or closest to it! A great prize to award the winner of any of these trivia games would be a trivia game, such as Trivial Pursuit™, a subscription to a news periodical, or a coffee table book chronicling the 20th century.

Games- any of these games can be modified to match your Halloween Party Theme!

  • Candy Corn Catch – Divide your guests into teams. Tie a plastic pumpkin around the waist of one member. Place those members several feet away from the rest of the teams. On the word, “go” have the teams toss candy corn toward their team member wearing the pumpkin. Whichever team gets the most candy in the bucket during the allotted time wins!
  • Stick with a proven party hit by letting your guests take a whack at a Halloween Pinata and let the sweet treats fall
  • Pass the Spider Game - Really creep your friends out with this game! Before the party, tie a Plastic Spider to a ball of black yarn. Make sure you have one for each team. At the party, divide your guests into two or more teams and have them line up in a straight line. The object is to be the first team to be tied together by the “spider web”. On the word “go” the first person in the line must pass the spider up one sleeve, across their chest; down the other sleeve to the next person keep the string in their clothing. The next person does the same thing until every team member is tied together. The first team done wins!
  • Balloon Stuff Game - Make a real “pop” at the end of this one! Blow up lots of orange and black Balloons before the party. Keep your guests divided into teams and give each team a large sweat suit. Have the smallest team member put the suit on and on the signal have the others stuff as many balloons into the sweat suit as possible. After about one minute yell “stop” and the team with the fewest balloons left wins! You can do this as many times as you want, but after the last time pass out toothpicks for the guests to pop the balloons! Very fun for any age!
  • Fortunes and Ghost Stories – For this activity you will definitely want to purchase our Flaming Table Torch. Place the brewing witch’s pot on the floor in the center of your room and have your guests gather around. Hire a professional fortuneteller or storyteller and spook your guests by hearing eerie stories and future occurrences.
  • Halloween Limbo - Add some fun to your bash with an exciting and  festive Limbo competition!  We carry the perfect reusable Limbo Sets!
